Aglaia est genus plus quam centum specierum familiae Meliacearum. Hae arbores sunt endemicae in tropicis et subtropicis Asiae Meridio-Orientalis, Australiae Septentrionalis, Oceanique Pacifici silvis. Aliae lignum gravis momenti producunt; aliae, fructus edules (sicut duku et langsat), flores fragrantes, vel proprietates medicinales. Plurimis sunt multiplices coniunctiones biologicae cum procuratoribus earum dissipationis. Nonnullae "bioactivitatem"? insectifugam monstrant.
