Phoenix dactylifera (binomen a Carolo Linnaeo anno 1753 statutum) est species plantarum fructiferarum in Mesopotamia sive et Arabia sponte gignens, ibi et in aliis regionibus littoralibus sub climate tropico culta. Fructus ("dactyli") maturi desiccati per omnem fere terrarum orbem venditantur.
