Noam Chomsky, aliquando pater linguisticae hodiernae appellatus, anno 2017.

Historia linguisticae scientiam linguisticae tractat, disciplinam academicam quae linguam, humanam loquendi facultatem, describere et explicare conatur. Studium linguisticum primum concitabatur ob emendatam classicae linguae liturgicae descriptionem petendam, insigniter vocabulorum grammaticae Sanscriticae, ac per logicae rhetoricaeque in Graecia antiqua progressum, qui ad traditionem grammaticam aevo Hellenistico ducebat.
