Pantomimus[1] (a Graeco παντόμιμος 'actor pantomimicus' < παντο- 'omnis' + μῖμος 'imitator, actor'[2]) est genus comoediae musicae, pro oblectamento familiarum designatum. Ortus est in Anglia, et usitate per tempora Christi Natalis et Novi Anni agitur. Pantomimus hodiernus carmina, comoedia slapstick, saltationem, et histriones transvestitos comprehendit, et festivitatem rerum cum argumento in fabulis notissimis miscet, saepe fabulis puerilibus condito.[3] Spectatores aliquando cantant et adeo acclamationes clamant.
