Tetraoninae sunt subfamilia phasianidarum ordinis Galliformium. Quae classificatio ab investigationibus DNA mitochondrialis sustinetur,[1] et ab American Ornithologists' Union,[2] ITIS,[3] aliisque eruditis adhibetur.[4] Tetraoninae temperatas et subarcticas hemisphaerii septentrionalis regiones habitant, a silvis pinorum ad tesquas et montes,[5] a parallelo 83 septentrionali (Lagopus muta in Groenlandia septentrionali) ad parallelum 28 septentrionalem (Tympanuchus cupido attwateri in Texia).[6]
