Poliomyelitis[1][2] (e verbis Graecis πολιός 'color cineraceus' + μυελός 'medulla' + suffixum -itis 'inflammatio'[3]), aliquando tantum polio sive paralysis infantilis sive paralysis infantum[2] seu poliomyelitis anterior acuta infantum[2] est acutus morbus viralis, accurate infectio, ab homine ad hominum transmissa, praecipue per viam faecalem-oralem.[4] Causa est poliovirus. Homines hoc morbo laborantes saepe facultatem ambulandi amittunt. Vaccinum contra poliomyelitem primum inventus a Ioanne E. Salk anno 1954.
