Can you help?[fontem recensere]

UV, I have no idea where to report this. An anonymous IP 126.86.167.155 has been slowly doing some cross-wiki vandalism: an illustration of an organ (I mean, a musical organ!) has been inserted on lots of pages, across many wikipedias, where it didn't belong, especially pages about guitarists and about manga. It's surprising that they haven't been noticed: some of the pages have been like that for months and have been edited meanwhile. Just shows how easy it is. It happened here today at Gary Moore, that's why I noticed.

I think I have corrected the pages affected (though there might be others in which a different image has been used) but the address should be blocked, I think. Can you pass the message on, by any chance? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:24, 8 Martii 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for spotting this! I have now reported this issue at meta:Vandalism reports#126.86.167.155. Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 22:27, 8 Martii 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your thinking, but, believe it or not, Iacobus and I are at one on this. I also find the table of contents a pure nuisance (maybe more useful on en:wiki, where there are many very long pages). So I abrogated your last change at my common.css. Best wishes -- Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 09:17, 3 Aprilis 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fine! (I thought you probably just wanted to help testing when you added this to your common.css, now I know better …) Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 21:58, 3 Aprilis 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, UV. Thanks again for your help with those emails. For some reason I still never get the confirmatory email from Wikimedia, so I have still not been able to restore my Wikimedia email capability. But, since I practically never need it, I am not worrying about this.

Thanks also for your reply about Samuel Ampzing. We could no doubt use Wikidata more, especially for plain cross-linguistic facts. There is one detail that is unlucky, and maybe you know how we could put it right. In that same formula we could use Wikidata for dates of birth and death, but Wikidata in Latin gives dates of birth and death that are ungrammatical (the month in the nominative). I don't know why: presumably a non-Latinist at Wikidata took this decision without asking. Have you any thoughts on that? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 08:59, 30 Iunii 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No idea why you do not get the confirmation e-mail. Did you already try to change your e-mail address at Special:ChangeEmail?
Dates at wikidata are alas not yet properly localized (bugzilla:48962). This affects not only Latin but many languages. In the meanwhile, it would be possible to use a Lua module to extract day, month and year separately from the Wikidata date and then arrange them in proper format, but I have not yet delved into this. Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 22:47, 30 Iunii 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the Bugzilla link. I see that Hebrew (for example) has exactly the same problem as Latin. A pity that they did not choose a real international format such as YYYY-MM-DD. If they are in fact working on this, it's probably better not to spend time on the conversion until they have done their work ...
Yes, I have just tried again. However often I click on "send another email", it never comes. So far as I know, all emails from other sources are reaching me correctly. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 08:54, 1 Iulii 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. Possibly en:Help:Email confirmation might contain some useful information for you? --UV (disputatio) 23:19, 1 Iulii 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I have now confirmed via an email address that I don't normally use (because it fills with spam). In my normal email, possibly my spam settings somehow blocked the message, though I don't see how. No problem now, anyway. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 14:45, 2 Iulii 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, UV. I can see the badge at Wikidata, but I can't see how you inserted it. Can you explain in words of one syllable? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 12:24, 20 Augusti 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's OK, I see it now :) Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:23, 20 Augusti 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Categories[fontem recensere]

Hi again. A little puzzle for you. From the diffs I can't see how Aula Nova (Cantabrigia), which once had categories, has ended up without any. Can you make it out? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 08:58, 2 Septembris 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is here: Special:Diff/2782580 This edit contains an opening <gallery> tag but no corresponding closing </gallery> tag. Hence everything that follows the opening <gallery> tag, including the categories, is (mis)interpreted as belonging to the gallery. I have now fixed it by adding a closing </gallery> tag in an appropriate place: Special:Diff/2787899. Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 22:59, 2 Septembris 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I ought to have spotted that! Thanks Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 08:36, 3 Septembris 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are most welcome, thank you for spotting the problem! --UV (disputatio) 21:11, 3 Septembris 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Non stipula[fontem recensere]

De: "removing your user talk page from the list of pages marked as 'non stipula.'"—Thanks! Someone else stuck it into a text and probably didn't understand that it was in effect marking the page for eventual deletion! IacobusAmor (disputatio) 20:25, 9 Novembris 2014 (UTC)[reply]
