Stylometria est adhibitio studii styli linguistici, usitate ad linguam scriptam, sed aliquando ad musicam[1] et picturas artium elegantiorum.[2] Stylometria saepe ad auctorem documentis sine nomine aut recusatis attribuendam adhibetur. Qui sunt adhibitiones legitimae, academicae, et litterariae, inter quas linguistica forensis et quaestio auctoris operum Shakesperii.

Stylometria ex rationibus textuum pro indiciis auctoritatis, auctoris, et aliarum quaestionum enodatorum orta est. Exemplum primum est probatio Laurentii Vallae anni 1439 Constitutum Constantini fuisse subiectio, argumentum partim adversus Latinam in genuinis saeculi quarti instrumentis adhibitam.
