Georgius Percy (4 Septembris 15801632) fuit explorator et scriptor Anglicus et colonicus Virginiae gubernator.

Vita[recensere | fontem recensere]

Natus est Georgius Percy in Anglia, filius minimus natu Henrici Percy, Comitis Northumbriae, et Dominae Catherinae Neville. Diutissime fuit infirmus, fortasse epilepsia vel asthmate severo patiens. Gradum A.B. in Universitate Oxoniensi anno 1597 abstulit. Cum in universitate esset, sodalis Gloucester Hall et Medii Templi factus est. Percy miles primum in Nederlandico libertatis ab Hispania saeculo 17 ineunte certamine, deinde in Hibernia meruit.

Percy fuit particeps gregis colonorum Anglicorum 105 qui Iacobopolim condiderunt. Ex Anglia Decembre 1696 demigravit et per navigationem ephemeridem scripsit. In Coloniam Virginiam Aprili mense 1607 advectus, certamina colonorum ad tractandos locos morbosque Americanos et Indos Powhatan memoriae mandavit. "Sic quinque menses aerumnosi et miseri vivebamus," in ephemeride scripsit, "adeo quinque hominibus valentibus carentes qui nostra propugnacula custodirent ut occasione utirent."[1][2]

Georgius Percy Annam Floyd duxit,[3] quae unam filiam peperit, Annam Percy, quae vicissim Ioanni West, alii colonico Virginiae gubernatori, nupsit.
