Orcus vel Gobelinus[1] est gens bellica in Terra Media professoris Tolkien. In libro Hobbitus Ille praecipue vocantur gobelini, sed in Domino Anulorum orci. In alta lingua dryada Quenya, verbum pro "Orcis" est urco, plurali urqui, significat "larva", id est, aliqua res qua provocat timor. In commentariolo de linguis elvensis, scripto in 1954, Tolkien sensum praebuit 'orc' prout larva et extendit originem verbi anglici veteri est nomen Latini 'Orcus'-deus inferorum.[2]
