It looks like the numerical links don't work any more: something's changed at Perlentaucher's site. A. Mahoney (disputatio) 16:07, 1 Maii 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And this formula reports an error if the parameter specified isn't equal to the Perlentaucher ID found in Wikidata. Unfortunately, the formula can only check the first value of P 866. When that's the name (as for example in Noam Chomsky, d:Q9049), there's no problem -- enter the name in the formula, and get a good link to Perlentaucher. When the mumeric ID comes first and the name second (as with Guntherus Grass, d:Q6538), we have a problem: if we put the number into the formula, we don't get a local error, but we get a "page not found" error at Perlentaucher. But if we put the name into the formula, we get an error here but we do get the desired link. As there's no way to control what happens in Wikidata, I'm not sure this error check is useful -- what do others think? A. Mahoney (disputatio) 16:24, 1 Maii 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The numbers are small, since there are currently only five reported errors of which the one I happened to test was not an error: it produced a good link. I suppose the assumption underlying this formula and test was that a person's name is always what Wikidata says it is. Have I understood correctly? Unless we can refine that assumption somehow, perhaps we should drop it.
I added the magazine's subtitle to the output, since there might be some Latin readers who haven't heard of Perlentaucher.de and don't know what a Perlentaucher is, but might be able to guess what a Kulturmagazin is! One tries to be helpful ... Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 17:24, 1 Maii 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there are only 5 reported errors, and yes, they'll all give good links, because I updated them all this morning! That's when I discovered that fixing the link doesn't fix the error category. And I do agree that adding Kulturmagazin is useful, as I hadn't heard of Perlentaucher myself before today! A. Mahoney (disputatio) 18:32, 1 Maii 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, apparently the numerical links do not work any more because of some changes at Perlentaucher's site.
Our template cannot properly deal with the case when the Wikidata item has more than one Perlentaucher ID: it will compare our ID with the concatenation of the IDs present at Wikidata, which will almost invariably be different and report an error. However, these cases will drastically reduce in number (and have currently reduced to zero for us), now that numeric Perlentaucher IDs are useless. I have now removed numeric IDs from Wikidata where Wikidata had both the numeric ID and the string ID, and I have updated all our pages where we still were using the numerical ID, so for us everything should be fine now. That's great! the ideal solution Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:49, 1 Maii 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you -- this should help globally (:en and :de also use this formula). A. Mahoney (disputatio) 20:56, 2 Maii 2017 (UTC)[reply]
