Gymnothorax castaneus est magna anguilla familiae Muraenidarum, in Oceano Pacifico endemicus.[1]
Aquas marinas a Sinu Californiae ad Galapagos Insulas et Aequatoriam habitat,[2] in scopulis curalii inter 3m et 36m altis.[2] Ad circa 1.5 m longus crescit.[2] Colore est brunneus vel olivaceus.[3]
