But encyclopaedias often have pronunciation indicators at the head of a chapter, and in something like latin, where scansion plays a big role in scholarship, we have the advantage of being able to show long and short syllables. In this case I think it's useful to break standard orthographical procedures, as the genitive and gender of a noun might be useful.
