Piscina ab pisces nominatur...debeamusne mentionem piscum facere?--Ioshus Rocchio 17:34, 11 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can write "piscina ab pisces nominatur" but I don't know what else to write... Alexanderr 17:38, 11 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also what is the right latin word for "for -ing" such as in this case where a pool is "for swimming, bathing, and playing"? Alexanderr 17:39, 11 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm saying is that traditionally they were fish ponds, coy and such, in people's atria. Ing is formed by the latin gerund... "pro natando, lavando(balneando might be a word, but I don't feel right about it), ludendo..."--Ioshus Rocchio 17:52, 11 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well I'll make sure to remember that in the future, and fix the "ings" on this page. :) Alexanderr 17:55, 11 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My original idea for what word to use to describe a "piscina" was "lacuna", and then it was changed to "lacus" (because lacuna isn't classical latin apperantly - even though it was never my goal to write classical latin), and then it was changed to "Stagnus". I personally thought about using "stagnus" in my original description, however I felt that that word carries a kind of pond scum, stagnant idea. And while the wates of a pool are tranquile the are still regulated and filtered... That's all I really wanted to say. Alexanderr 21:16, 12 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I don't like stagnus either, it is more properly a swamp. Lacus is good.--Ioshus Rocchio 03:49, 13 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]
