The block quote that defines communication, and especially reference #3 (and #4) that it is based on, are biased toward a special case of communication; namely, the one indicated in reference #4.
In the general case, the receiver's subjective relationship (needs, desires, etc.), if any, to what is communicated is irrelevant. For communication to have taken place, all that matters is that objective *information* has been successfully conveyed from a sender to a receiver.
"Information" will then require its own, separate definition.
But the definition of communication itself should not be limited to particular circumstances, nor made more complicated than it needs to be, and actually is.
