We need to figure out a good way to distinguish the (at least) three separate countries that could be referred to by the name Aethiopia:

  1. The territory to the south of Egypt, also called Cush or Nubia. Nubia might work, but I don't believe the name was used until very late (possibly even the Middle Ages). This was the country usually meant by Aethiopia in antiquity.
  2. The territory in the Horn of Africa, where the Axumite empire was located. This can perhaps be called Abyssinia.
  3. The modern country called Aethiopia. I suppose the bias towards antiquity can only go so far, if there is a modern country it probably should get priority in a case like this.

Any suggestions? --Iustinus 00:13 mar 7, 2005 (UTC)

I think Nubia would be more like the Sudan.KAMERONUS MAXIMUS 21:05, 12 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]
