- I think both metra and metrorum are correct here. Simplifying we can compare
- Distantia est quinque metra, quinque (adjective) modifies metra->The distance is five meters.
- versus
- Distantia est quinque metrorum, metrorum modifies quinque (noun)->The distance is five in meters.
- Numbers generally are both adjectives and nouns (with only a few exceptions).

- Big numbers are special. Mille "is in the singular an indeclinable adjective. . . . In the plural it is used as a neuter noun" (A&G #134). So mille homines 'one thousand men', but duo milia hominum 'two thousands of men = two thousand men'. Presumably the Latin terms for millions, billions, trillions, and so on, work the same way.
