Object history
Deutsch: Das Wappen basiert auf einem Siegel aus dem späten 15. Jahrhundert. Es wurde 1817 durch den preußischen König verliehen. Die Kreuze stehen redend für den Stadtnamen. Der Schachbalken entstammt dem Wappen der Grafen von Sponheim. Die Mauerkrone steht für die im 13. Jahrhundert verliehenen Stadtrechte.
English: The arms based on a seal of the later 15th century. The crosses are a canting element (Kreuz=cross), the bar is derived from the oldest arms of the Counts of Sponheim, who ruled the city until 1437. The arms were officially granted in 1817 by the Prussian King. The mural crown symbolises the granted in the 13th century city rights.
