Français : Portrait d'homme, autrefois identifié comme Charles Nodier (1780-1877), homme de lettre.
Lorsqu'il est entré au musée, le portrait était identifié comme celui de François-Adrien Boieldieu (1775-1834) ou de Charles Nodier (1780-1844). Cette dernière identification a longtemps prévalue bien qu'aucune ressemblance très marquée ne vienne l'appuyer. La ville que l'on aperçpit au fond du tableau ne semble pas être Paris ; on a voulu y voir une représentation de Laybach (l'actuelle Ljubljana) en Slovénie, où Nodier fut bibliothécaire, lorsqu'on identifiait le portrait comme celui de Nodier. Le monogramme L.R. a été hypothétiquement identifié comme celui de Louis Riesener (1808-1878).
