Summarium

Descriptio

Artistic representation of the Statue of Zeus in Olympia, but it is inaccurate in many details: according to (V, 11, 1f), Zeus carried a statuette of Victory in his right hand and a sceptre with a bird sitting on it in the left hand.Four victoriess stood at each foot of the throne and two at the base of each foot.Pausanias wrote: "Near the offering of the Hyblaeans has been made a pedestal of bronze with a Zeus upon it, which I conjecture to be about eighteen feet high. The donors and sculptors are set forth in elegiac verse:—“The Cleitorians dedicated this image to the god, a tithe From many cities that they had reduced by force. The sculptors were Aristo and Telestas,Own brothers and Laconians."(Pausanias, Description of Greece, 5.23.7)

Kteří lidé věnovali sochu bohu, a čí je to dílo, hlásají napsané verše: Kleitorští dali tu sochu bohu co desátek vzácný, pažemi zdeptali vojska, zkrotivše nejedno z měst. Aristón s Telestem, bratrem .... '" (Pausanias, Cesta po Řecku, 5.23.7)
