Summarium

Descriptio
English: The Phyletisches Museum in Jena, presenting its renovated facade and forecourt. Founded in 1907 by the German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, and artist Ernst Haeckel, the museum is devoted to the phylogeny and the theory of evolution, but also it celebrates the encounter of nature and art. Since 1908, the Art Nouveau building belongs to the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and, today, is assigned to the Institute of Systematic Zoology and Evolutionary Biology. The extensive zoological and palaeontological collections comprise more than 500,000 pieces with a history reaching back to the 17th century. A registered association “Friends of the Phyletisches Museum” was founded in 1995 and amongst others takes care for the preservation, extension and presentation of the valuable zoological specimens, but also for the sustainment of the listed building.
