Locus nativus eius nobis ignotus est, fortasse Monemutae, cum qua urbe manifeste aliquid habuit nisi ibi natus sit. Adulescens doctrinae se dedit apud universitatem Oxoniensem. Anno 1152 consecratus est episcopus sedis Sancti Asaphi Cambriae.

Opera

Opus primum Galfridi fuit Prophetiae Merlini, ante annum 1135 scriptum, partim a poematibus bardorum sumptum, ubi Merlinus regis Arthuri vates praedicit res futuras insulae Britanniae regnorumque Cambriae et Angliae.

Has prophetias Galfridus postea renovavit atque inseruit in opere suo secundo, Historia regum Britanniae appellato. Ibi narravit res gestas Britanniae, partim a dictis bardorum, partim ab inventionibus suis congessas. Hoc opus famosissimum fons est historiae vel potius mythologiae de rege Arthuro linguis Anglica Francogallica aliisque multis postea conscriptae.

Opus tertium Galfridi poema est epicum, Vita Merlini appellatum, sub anno 1150 scriptum.
