The [[foundation:|Wikimedia Foundation]] tests the switch between its first and secondary data centers. This will make sure that Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia wikis can stay online even after a disaster. To make sure everything is working, the Wikimedia Technology department needs to do a planned test. This test will show if they can reliably switch from one data centre to the other. It requires many teams to prepare for the test and to be available to fix any unexpected problems.

They will switch all traffic back to the primary data center on '''Tuesday, 14 September 2021'''.

Unfortunately, because of some limitations in [[mw:Manual:What is MediaWiki?|MediaWiki]], all editing must stop while the switch is made. We apologize for this disruption, and we are working to minimize it in the future.

'''You will be able to read, but not edit, all wikis for a short period of time.'''

*You will not be able to edit for up to an hour on Tuesday, 14 September 2021. The test will start at [https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1631628049 14:00 UTC] (07:00 PDT, 10:00 EDT, 15:00 WEST/BST, 16:00 CEST, 19:30 IST, 23:00 JST, and in New Zealand at 02:00 NZST on Wednesday, 15 September).
*If you try to edit or save during these times, you will see an error message. We hope that no edits will be lost during these minutes, but we can't guarantee it. If you see the error message, then please wait until everything is back to normal. Then you should be able to save your edit. But, we recommend that you make a copy of your changes first, just in case.

''Other effects'':

*Background jobs will be slower and some may be dropped. Red links might not be updated as quickly as normal. If you create an article that is already linked somewhere else, the link will stay red longer than usual. Some long-running scripts will have to be stopped.
* We expect the code deployments to happen as any other week. However, some case-by-case code freezes could punctually happen if the operation require them afterwards.

MWBot

Thanks in advance, --MisterWiki 13:27, 16 Februarii 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added to the manual list of bots with and without bot flag, thanks! --UV 22:30, 16 Februarii 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mjbmrbot is no longer a global bot

Hello, please update the list. Mjbmrbot is no longer a global bot (see here). The discussion can be found here, thanks. Wikitanvir 14:55, 29 Martii 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for telling us, I have updated the list. User:Mjbmrbot does not have a local bot flag either, so if it continues editing, we will see and monitor its edits on recentchanges. On the other hand, I do not currently see the need for blocking Mjbmrbot. --UV 21:51, 29 Martii 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bot flag for SamoaBot

It will remove interwiki links, once la.wiki is migrated to Wikidata. It is currently flagged on hu.wiki (see contributions) and being approved on el.wiki and no.wiki. --Ricordisamoa (disputatio) 11:36, 3 Martii 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not. It is a very bad idea to remove interwiki links without checking that (a) the lawiki article in question is indeed connected to a wikidata entry and (b) each and every interwiki link that the bot is about to remove is indeed present on the wikidata entry in question. There are other, comparatively minor, problems as well (e. g. interwiki links with section anchors that cannot be added to wikidata and therefore must stay in the article, but the bot that removes the other interwiki links should ideally check for conflicts involving these interwiki links with section anchors as well). There are other bots with a longstanding edit history (in particular global bots) that will do the job. Thank you! --UV (disputatio) 12:54, 3 Martii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I grant that the bot will remove interlinks only if they are all present on Wikidata! Check the contributions on hu.wiki if you don't trust me! --Ricordisamoa 12:59, 3 Martii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it would be operated only once la.wiki is completely migrated to Wikidata. --Ricordisamoa 13:03, 3 Martii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for explaining, and thank you for offering your help! As past experience tells that every bot, and in particular every new bot, has some minor problems, I would prefer to leave the task to the "well-experienced" bots (I am thinking in particular of MerlIwBot and Xqbot here, who are both global bots), and perhaps to a small number of larger bots with a bit more experience than your bot (perhaps Addbot and/or Legobot, who both have already done tens of thousands of edits on enwiki and hewiki, where wikidata is already active). And although it is desirable to have unnecessary local interlanguage links that duplicate wikidata interlanguage links removed within a few weeks' time, there is no particular hurry. I would therefore propose that we wait until, for example, two weeks after wikidata becomes active on all wikipedias. Then, we can see how much work the other bots have already done and what still remains to be done. If, by then, a large number of duplicate interwiki links remain to be removed, I would be happy to discuss your offer for help further. Again, thank you! --UV (disputatio) 21:23, 3 Martii 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SamoaBot is now a global bot with nearly two million edits on wikidata and more than 80 000 edits spread over eight wikipedias, apparently without any major problems. I withdraw all my reservations and I would be happy if you would like to run your bot on la.wikipedia as well. Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 20:27, 25 Maii 2013 (UTC)[reply]

We are trying to set up a new global translation for edit summaries: documentation and translatable message. It would be useful if you could provide me some feedback on the Latin version I've made. Thanks, --Ricordisamoa 05:51, 28 Maii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It also follows Recent Changes: this edit of yours triggered this other. :-) --Ricordisamoa 08:00, 28 Maii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks! --UV (disputatio) 21:10, 28 Maii 2013 (UTC)[reply]

bot flag for AMahoney_bot

I've been making automated edits under my own name for a long time; now I have a bot account. If it's convenient, that account could be given the bot flag. I propose to add a new formula to all of the 10,000 Pages this afternoon -- that's what prompted me to create this account now. A. Mahoney (disputatio) 16:58, 17 Maii 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I support giving the bot flag to Usor:AMahoney bot (A. Mahoney definitely knows what she is doing and is a most trusted user). --UV (disputatio) 20:43, 17 Maii 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In case a further opinion is needed, I think so too :) Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 10:34, 18 Maii 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I nearly forgot about this here. I have now asked our Vicipaedia:Grapheocrates to grant the bot flag. Greetings, --UV (disputatio) 22:42, 16 Iunii 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to all. A. Mahoney (disputatio) 15:14, 17 Iunii 2014 (UTC)[reply]
