Parasitismus est coniunctio symbiotica inter duos organismos, ubi quidam organismus, parasitus, adiumentum ex hospite capit, saepe diutissime. Ad summam, parasiti hospitibus sunt minores, multum "specializationis" pro eorum modo vivendi habent, et hospitibis se citius et in pluribus numeris reproducunt. Incluta parasitismi exempla sunt coniunctiones inter hospites vertebrata et minuta animalia sicut cestoda, trematoda, plasmodia, et siphonaptera. Parasitismus distinguitur a parasitoidismo, coniunctione in quo hospites—saepe blattae, papiliones, formicae, et alia animalia parva—a parasito semper necantur.
