Nihilismus (a verbo nihil) est philosophica doctrina quae quicquam (sicut propositum obiectivum, significationem obiectivam, virtutem innatam) esse seu valere negat. Homines qui nihilismo credunt nomen nihilistarum merent: hac designatione, antea rarius et inter philosophos accepta, primus auctorum popularium Ioannes Turgenev usus est anno 1862 in opere Отцы и дети (Otcy i deti, i.e. 'Patres et filii') inscripto. Haec philosophia agnosticismo, atheismo, nec non exsistentialismo conectitur.
