Est archaeologus et rerum Anglosaxonicarum eruditus; libros nonnullos scripsit de arte Vicingorum et de historia mediaevali insulae Monapiae (ubi ipse habitat). De opificio Alfrediano aliisque arte factis Anglosaxonicos anno 1984 disserit; anno 1985 liber de Tapete Baiocensi divulgavit. David Mackenzie Wilson est sodalis Academiae Regiae Scientiarum Suecicae.
