Mammut americanum, etiam mastodon nominatum, genus erat generibus elephantorum cognatum. Mammuta ex aevo Miocaeno vivebant et in America et in Eurasia. Ex circiter decem milia annorum exstincta sunt. Cave confundas mammuta cum mammuthis, qui ad elephantos pertinent.
