Deutsch: Hochaltar des Stephansdoms in der österreichischen Bundeshauptstadt Wien.
Das frühbarocke Meisterwerk aus Marmor und Stein wurde im Auftrag von Fürstbischof Philipp Friedrich Graf Breuner von Johann Jacob Pock, Steinmetzmeister, Bildhauer und Architekt errichtet und am 19. Mai 1647 konsekriert. Sein Bruder Tobias Pock malte das etwa 10 Meter hohe Altarbild. Es zeigt die Steinigung des hl. Stephanus vor den Mauern Jerusalems und über ihm den geöffneten Himmel mit Gott Vater und zu seiner Rechten Christus. Das Bild wurde auf Zinnplatten gemalt, weil man Sorge hatte, dass eine Leinwand die Größe des Bildes nicht tragen kann. |
