English: This image is the symbol of the Ndut Ceremony in Senegambia. It is a triagular and heavy object that a chosen one (always a man) carries on his head during the celebration of this ancient Serer ceremony of the boys/men who have been initated. The whole town or village gather to witness this ceremony. This image also appears in Salif Dione's book "L'Appel du Ndut - Ou l'initiation des garcons Seereer". Published by IFAN Cheikh Anta Diop, Dakar. 2004. ISBN: 92 9130 047 0.

Fons Opus proprium took a picture of Ndut initiation rite I attended. This is the symbol of the Ndut ceremony and over the years many people have taken picture of the annual ceremony with this object carried on the head of someone chosen.
