Vapi kujundamisel on silmas peetud järgmisi märksõnu: mereäärne vald, Soela väin. Paljud Emmaste mehed on olnud seotud meresõidu ja laevaehitusega. 1891. a. osteti 2-mastiline kaljas ‘Seksna’, mille tüürimeheks oli Enn Uuetoa - hiljem tuntud Kihnu Jõnnina. Jausa külas on sündinud Herman Sergo.[1]
