Object history
Deutsch: Der heilige Martin ist der Patron der Pfarrkirche und des Ortes. Das Bild des heiligen Martins mit dem Bettler erscheint bereits auf dem ersten bekannten Ortssiegel, das nicht datiert ist und wohl dem 17. Jahrhundert zuzuordnen ist. Es wurde in umgekehrter Richtung in die neueren Dienstsiegel übernommen. Die Farbgebung geht auf die Gestaltung durch Otto Hupp zurück, der sich an einer Zeichnung aus der Zeit um 1812 orientierte. Der Markt Waging kam erst 1816 mit den salzburgischen Gerichten im Rupertiwinkel endgültig zu Bayern. Eine Wappenverleihung durch die früheren Landesherren, die Erzbischöfe von Salzburg, ist nicht bekannt. Waging wird 1385 erstmals als Markt genannt. Im 16. Jahrhundert erhielt der Ort weitere Marktprivilegien und gewann als Mittelpunkt des neu geschaffenen Pfleg- und Landgerichts Waging zentralörtliche Bedeutung. In neuerer Zeit führte erst das Aufkommen des Fremdenverkehrs zum wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung im Markt.
