Summarium

Descriptio
English: The "Himmelssaal" of the "Haus Atlantis", Bremen, Germany.

Constructed after designs by Bernhard Hoettger in 1930/31, the "Haus Atlantis" was meant to be a reminiscence to the sunken continent "Atlantis". The builder, Ludwig Roselius, was convinced of the teachings of the "myth-researcher" Herman Wirth, who held the view that the "aryo-germanic" people stemmed from the great and superior residents of Atlantis... The final execution was left to Hoettger. He obviously tried to realise a unification of the "völkisch" ideas of Wirth and Christianty – what might have given the Nazis rise to declare this building to be "Degenerate Art". However, in the end Albert Speer, the Nazi's "grandmaster of architecture", classified the "Haus Atlantis" as a historical monument.

The building was seriously damaged in World War II, and it's nowadays still standing sections are part of the Hilton Bremen.
