Salve, Herr!

Ave! Spero te "Vicipaedianum" aut "Vicipaedianam" fieri velle! --Rafaelgarcia 02:44, 25 Februarii 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ignosce me, ob te duas horas obstruxendum, ob censuam latinitatis delendam. Amabo te, nostris normis vicipaedianis obtempera!--Rafaelgarcia 03:39, 25 Februarii 2009 (UTC)[reply]

De paginis[fontem recensere]

Salve Herr Rhor Hdz. Gratias ago, --Xaverius 09:52, 2 Martii 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Salve, Thor. Maybe you're having trouble signing your comments on talk pages? All you have to do is to type four tildes ~~~~ after your comment. The software does the rest. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 12:50, 3 Martii 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Place names[fontem recensere]

Finding sources for place names is a very good and necessary thing: all strength to you. In principle, all our Latin place names ought to have footnotes with references to reliable sources, and important alternative names need to be added and referenced as well. In many cases this hasn't yet happened, and all help is welcome.

Keep in mind that one website may have no more authority than another. There are many mistakes and strange choices in Latin on the web -- and not all the mistakes are on Vicipaedia! If you would like to look more at the sources we have used in the past, see the page Vicipaedia:Fontes nominum locorum. Maybe the Belgian page you mention needs to be added to this? Or maybe it's there already?

You raised the question of Gallia and Ruthenia (for Francia and Russia). The names that people choose sometimes depend on the kind of writing they are doing. As regards Gallia, we as an encyclopaedia have to have entries for pre-Roman and Roman Gaul (Gallia) as well as for the country that developed after the Frankish invasion (Francia). The name Francia is quite standard in medieval and later Latin, and we have found that fact useful: for us, the distinction between ancient Gallia and modern Francia may remain necessary, even though some people (with classics in mind) prefer to call the modern country Gallia.
