This isn't a sub-category of Categoria:Litterae as we currently understand "Categoria:Litterae", where it means Literature. I guess "Vocales" is intended as a subcategory of Phonemes or Speech sounds, or possibly of both? Although "Litterae" can be used with such a meaning, I'd say it's a counter-intuitive use nowadays since linguists now distinguish firmly between speech sounds and the letters/symbols of a script. I think we need new categories with one or both of those meanings. Categoria:Phonemata for one, surely. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 13:40, 24 Martii 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Of course you're right about literature, my mistake! I was never satisfied with it in the first place and was planning on coming back to it. Speech sounds is probably the most accurate, yeah, since vowels as a concept can exist outside of bound phonemes? But you're right it should stay in phonemeta.
On a side note, we're missing a lot of cool infoboxes about language and scripts and speech sounds, but infoboxes have gotten so complicated at en: that I don't know where to begin to start moving. Too bad.
