I found Halogenica and Chalcogenica and named things accordingly - I don't know myself if those names are correct. There does seem to be no cause for the '-ic-'. Pantocrator 03:04, 16 Aprilis 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My worry exactly. Adjectives do sometimes function as nouns, often neuter plural (as in "Nuper mutata"!), or as adjectives modifying some obvious unstated noun (so halogenica could perhaps = elementa halogenica). Could somebody provide an attestation either way? IacobusAmor 08:38, 16 Aprilis 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the name contains the same suffix as in hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, so that would suggest pl. halogenia. That form gets hits on Google Books, so it looks like we should move it.
I wonder why it's '-ium' to begin with though. Perhaps influence from genius, a native Latin word that can be considered identical to the suffix? Pantocrator 10:23, 16 Aprilis 2010 (UTC)[reply]
