Disputatio:Yucca

Ack, now that I look into this, I realize that the Anghieri quote is almost certainly not referring to yucca but cassava! Of course Anghieri also uses the term cazaby (sp?) and cazabbi (I don't know if this is 2nd declension, or indeclinable). Wish I had a better idea of how the terms "yuca" "yucca" and "cassava" are related. So far as I can tell:

1. cassava originally referred to bread made from the "yucca root" (sp. Manihot), but now is the more usual English word for the fruit.
2. yucca can refer to plants of species Manihot or sp. Yucca.
3. yuca, originally the spanish form of the previous word, is now used in English to refer exclusively to the Manihot species.
