Excuse my ignorance, but is there a political reason for preferring valentiane to catalane? --Ioscius 10:24, 4 Martii 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you just hit the nail there. Check the Spanish Wiki; "Valencian" is the official name of Catalan in the region of Valencia, appart from being one of the main dialects of EasternWestern Catalan. Plus there is a very politicised debate between "Valenciantists" and "Pancatalanists" about this, the former even claiming that Valencian is completely unrelated to Catalan at all. --Xaverius 11:10, 4 Martii 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Aha, well what should we do about it, Xavi, if anything? --Ioscius 09:42, 8 Martii 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Linguistically, it is correcto to leave this redirect. It may not however, be PC to leave it. I'd personally make a page to Lingua Valentiana, making clear that it is only the traditional name of Catalan in the region of Valencia, and thus include the main Valencian dialects of Catalan there.--Xaverius 10:38, 8 Martii 2010 (UTC)[reply]
