I wonder about the need to change to Somena. Samara seems to be the classical name; is Somena much used? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:43, 4 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That was because of Graesse's preference for Somena and its relation to the modern French word. I have moved it back now, however, since all of the sources point at Samara including Deschamps, who obviously knew his French geography. Harrissimo.
Why Graesse prefers that form, goodness knows! Thanks for changing again so quickly -- Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:52, 4 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think I was wrong now. "Samara" is not really the classical form -- it is a later reconstruction based on the name "Samarobriva". See Valesius. However, it is quite commonly used by more recent sources, as the footnotes show. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 19:10, 30 Iunii 2019 (UTC)[reply]
