What is the subject of this page? Is this the Dutch Republic as described here [1]? Or something different? (There are no interwikis). Harrissimo 00:06, 16 Ianuarii 2008 (UTC).[reply]

This article is about the Batavian Republic [2] from 1795 till 1806, not about the Dutch Republic that preceded it (from 1587 till 1795). The Batavian Republic was founded by the French who conquered the Dutch Republic in 1795. Leo Belgicus 11:49, 2 Aprilis 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The author was meaning to create an article on a particular period of Dutch history (nowadays it's obviously a monarchy, not a republic). I'm not sure this is a good idea. But however that may be, the relevant adjective is Batavus not Batavicus, so the article would need to be moved to Res publica Batava or arguably Res publica Bataviae.--Ceylon 06:43, 16 Ianuarii 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved - are you sure the adjective doesn't end in -icus? Mostly the demonym is just tha plain -us, the adjective -icus. Then again, we call it Lingua Batava Harrissimo 16:54, 16 Ianuarii 2008 (UTC).[reply]
The phrase occurs at Disputatio usoris:Agnus, but it was difficult to explain the concept of sources to Agnus and I don't think he ever cited one.
To comment on Ceylon's point, it is useful in principle to have an article on a government, even one that only had a brief history, because this will be the proper place to put information about its relationships with other governments, its subdivisions, the names of its ministers and officials, etc. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 21:19, 16 Ianuarii 2008 (UTC)[reply]
