How is a conceptio different from a notio?--Rafaelgarcia 20:14, 26 Aprilis 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A notio is an idea; a conceptio is a drawing up of a formulary (its roots implying a taking-in-together); hence, presumably, the term conception in modern languages. The original text there is "the nature and conception of reality," for which natura et notio would make a nice alliteration; but when dealing with philosophical terms, we might wish to preserve nuances (perhaps unknown to us!) by being somewhat "literal." Fix it if you like. I'm adding the missing 1000 pages as fast as I can, and infelicities are bound to creep in, here & there. As the strange new material spews forth, let's hope our friends Andrew & UV & other such maintainers of discipline don't have too many fits. ;) IacobusAmor 20:42, 26 Aprilis 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but I had to rewrite the beginning. The subject is very important, and therefore it deserves a thought-out start without too many anglicisms. If there is something that you find factually incorrect or inappropriate, feel free to change my phrasing. I promise not to interfere any more. :-) --Neander 23:44, 26 Aprilis 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Given you knowledge of latin, I hope you interfere as much as you wish always.--Rafaelgarcia 00:33, 27 Aprilis 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think you've done an excellent job, and the first Latin paragraph is now much, much better than the first English paragraph! Since I'm unfamiliar with the topic, all I can do is try to translate—and when the text to be translated is vaguely worded, watch out! IacobusAmor 01:05, 27 Aprilis 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with both points. Neander did an excellent job and a lot of english wiki intros indeed are often defective, their lemmas often so vague that you often can't tell what they are specifically talking about. I do, however, think we are all familiar enough with reality to be able to judge what it is. I wonder, if reality does encompass everything that we grasp with the mind "mente comprehendimus", does that include imaginary things?? I guess in the sense that it is a mental phenomenon. I'm not sure.--Rafaelgarcia 01:36, 27 Aprilis 2009 (UTC)[reply]
