Facebook link[fontem recensere]

The facebook link given doesn't appear to work, two of three of the details cited from it were erroneous, and Facebook isn't usually regarded as a reliable source! Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 17:52, 17 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's reliable in the sense that personal information in the "About" section (whence it was taken) must necessarily be typed into the system by the account holder himself or herself. Of course it would be unreliable if an account holder wished to be deceptive. IacobusAmor (disputatio) 20:14, 17 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's why it isn't usually regarded as a reliable source. (I make no insinuations about this account holder, needless to say: I'm just stating the accepted rule on en:wiki.) Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 21:02, 17 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For those reasons I took those footnote links out. For all that, if a working link can be given to his Facebook page, it could be placed at "Nexus externi". Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 17:52, 17 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]

1988 for 1998 was a typo here; 1998 is the year given in Facebook, publicized there by the account holder. The text said the birthyear was 'about 1974', and that was not erroneous. The approximate birthyear was a calculation from the year of secondary-school graduation; for a birthyear, subtracting 18 from 1992 is the way to bet, since U.S. students ordinarily graduate from secondary school at the age of 18 or a few months younger. IacobusAmor (disputatio) 20:14, 17 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Unless, of course, the account holder's birthday happens to fall late in the year.... --Iustinus (disputatio) 20:19, 17 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, but such people constitute a small minority—and that's still therefore not the way to bet! IacobusAmor (disputatio) 14:16, 18 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
True, but a significant portion of people born on Novermber 6th were born late in the year! --Iustinus (disputatio) 04:41, 19 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As I know we all three understand, betting on probabilities is not the way to go when writing Wikipedia, especially about living persons, who may have recourse to litigation if we underestimate either their youthfulness or their maturity :) Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 10:30, 19 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The text said he was born 'about 1974' and that was correct: someone born quite late in 1973 was indeed born 'about 1974'. Of course the greatest possible precision is desirable, and it has now been supplied, though the hour & minute seem to be wanting, to the undoubted distress of astrologers. :) IacobusAmor (disputatio) 11:27, 19 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Recte dicis: astrologa quaedam, quam olim docebam Linguam Latinam, de hac ipsa re questa est! --Iustinus (disputatio) 05:12, 20 Iulii 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Iacobus May[fontem recensere]

Iacobus May totally needs to become a blue link: he has a significant corpus of neo-Latin compositions. --Iustinus (disputatio) 21:16, 17 Iunii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
