Declinatio nominum Polynesiorum in -e[fontem recensere]
Andrew, I take it that Niue, Niues is based on a Greek model? For Polynesian names ending in -e (which are rather rare), it may be clearer than the previously proposed paradigm (e.g. Niue, Niuis; Fue, Fuis). I was using the adjective Niueanus, -a, -um precisely to avoid this issue, but it should be faced! For my enlightenment, could you specify all its caseforms? IacobusAmor 13:47, 9 Martii 2009 (UTC)
- I was hoping you'd comment. I don't really recommend the Greek-based declension because Latin authors tended to be inconsistent in forming it. I simply wanted a genitive, and if "Niuis" agrees with precedent, I'll take it! OK? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 14:06, 9 Martii 2009 (UTC)
- No, no: I'm saying I like the look of the genitive Niues better and would like to compare it with the paradigm that I already know! The form to avoid is Niuae because (in the previously published paradigm) that would imply that the nominative is Niua, which it isn't, though Niua is a perfectly good Polynesian word and is in fact a multiply attested placename!
