Helvia Recina is the ancient name of Macerata, not Recanati[fontem recensere]

After the distruction of Helvia Recina,in the valley of river Potenza, the inhabitants, who took shelter upon the hills, eventually began to rebuild the city, first on the top of the hills then they descended again and expanded. The new rebuiilt town was Macerata.

Probably Recanati too was built by some of the old Helvia Recina inhabitants (the name too suggests this probability) but Recanati is not the old Helvia Recina, absolutely. The ruins of Helvia Recina are located in Macerata,in the zone of Villa Potenza.

Doubtful about name[fontem recensere]

I'm doubtful about the name Helvia Recina. Graesse gives Recinetum. He does give Helvia Riccina, but he says that it was "eh b. Macerata" ("eh" means "formerly", and I assume "b" means "bei" or "near"). LionhardusCiampa 23:18, 18 Septembris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
