Usually called soia I believe, though someone is bound to insist on Glycine max ;) [BTW, apparently that "max" is due to confusion with the mash bean. Ironically (for some values of "irony") the mash bean's other name, "mung" was also accidentally assigned to the wrong legume: the urad. This of course makes me wonder if it's safe to call mung beans mungo or max, taxonomic Latin be damned!] Soia should probably follow the legume rule like faba, cicer, and so on: mass noun, not normally pluralized. --Iustinus 09:07, 19 Martii 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I was lobying for soia --Iustinus 03:52, 14 Aprilis 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Iustine, time to footnote your "soia". Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 10:52, 1 Februarii 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No footnote yet, so I took soia out, but I'm longing to see it back with a reference!
OK, thinking further, I can restore it myself, because soja exists in botanical Latin. I'll do that. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:09, 14 Maii 2015 (UTC)[reply]
