This is clearly a latin term which normally only means "family relation" or "belonging to the same gens", but which the christians twisted to mean something else--at least a discretiva is in order with the page moved to gentilitas (terminus ecclesiaticus) or something like... At present the article is a mere dictionary definition, with a list of (a few) things the term doesn't include. So it isn't yet an encyclopedia article. Let's wait and see. Agreed, the discretiva may be necessary. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 17:21, 11 Octobris 2010 (UTC)[reply]
All three of us are in agreement. The definition in my dictionary (Cassell's), in full, is: "the relationship between the members of a gens." Clearly the present definition, if the article is to be saved, should be bolstered with sources (which shouldn't be hard to find). Along the same lines, Andrew was right to remove the allusion to this article's kind of gentility from Religio Aegyptia, since calling non-Christians "gentiles" (except in specific Christianity-pertinent contexts) would be a biased POV. Indeed it is a very ignorant term, taken out of its original biblical context in prechristian Judea, where it was used to refer to Romans (who were not Jewish). After christianity took hold, a roman certainly would bothh have been a gentile and a christian. At least Paganismus can be given a distinct meaning (non Christian Roman religions). I think the article should be completely renamed and rewritten--123.192.64.184 22:55, 11 Octobris 2010 (UTC)[reply]
--Gualterus
Hanc commentatiunculam in discretivam mutavi. Significationem ecclesiasticam in paganismum reduxi. Quantum potui, conservavi. Neander (disputatio) 06:50, 20 Novembris 2015 (UTC)[reply]
