Disputatio:Fresno

Does anyone know how to decline Fraxinus? if its any help it means ash tree

Fraxinus is just a regular second declension -us -i word, EXCEPT that it is feminine (because all trees are.) But we do need to worry about how to say "Fresno":

Most Neolatinists I know call it Fraxinopolis. This is silly for a number of reasons, but it is very widespread.
Even if we decide to go against this, and call the place just "Fraxinus", surely Fraxinus should be reserved for the tree, and the city should be moved to Fraxinus (urbs) or something similar?

And don't forget, cities have locative cases, so don't say *in Fraxino, just say Fraxini. --Iustinus 17:14, 7 Augusti 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the page from Fraxinus to Fraxinus (California), so that Fraxinus may be used for the tree, as Iustinus suggested. --Fabullus 10:07, 24 Maii 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why would anyone refer to Fresno, ever, let alone Neolatinists??

Good point. Since no one responded to the demand for a source, the page has now become Fresno.
