To my ear, feedback doesn't evoke the slightest notion of "feed/fodder," but draws instead on the (already metaphorical) notion of feeding as giving, supporting, providing, channeling. If we're coining words, something as unconcrete as retro(f)actio might be conceivable, but then we shouldn't ordinarily be coining words. ;) IacobusAmor (disputatio) 14:20, 2 Februarii 2016 (UTC)
- A good metaphor would be a guided missile. Although a lot of feedback technology is used in amplifier electronics.Anyway there is constant comparison with a standard or target goal. - I said "pabulum", but I'm not coining words, just offering a literal translation in case the reader wanted to know what this strange English word might imply. We don't coin words, do we? That's why I removed "alimentia"! But please, Iacobe, replace my translation with a better one or delete it if you think it's no use. "Feed" says pabulum to me, but maybe that's just me.

- An etymological connection may historically be present, but for practical purposes feedback doesn't evoke ideas of anything edible. Think of it as giveback, for which coiners might offer retrodatio (from the genuine word datio 'a giving'), but of course we don't do that sort of thing. ;) In many contexts, the English noun is just a synonym of response (Latine responsum).
