It seems there was also a Clysma in the Fayyum. --Iustinus 19:07, 9 Iunii 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What's the evidence for the Clysma in the Fayyum? If there was one, it excuses the confusion of the translators of Lucian (Alexander or the False Prophet 44). They describe a young man sailing "up the Nile" to Clysma and then taking ship for India. The Nile isn't mentioned in the Greek text. Evidently he sailed along the canal to this Clysma, where he could indeed buy a ticket to India. The translators forgot about the canal. My go-to source for Egyptian toponyms is Trismegistos Places. The entry for Clysma-in-the-Fayyum is here. For ancient sources mentioning it, see here. I should look up that Narmuthis reference as well. At any rate, Clysma in the Faiyum would not be an ideal departure point for India ;) --Iustinus (disputatio) 19:58, 21 Februarii 2013 (UTC)[reply]
