Pagina discretiva?[fontem recensere]

Some of the pages at Specialis:Nexus_ad_paginam/Ala don't mean the town of Aalen, but different meanings of the word ala:

I suggest to move Ala to Ala (oppidum), and make Ala a Pagina discretiva. OK/other suggestions? --Mercator salvationis 16:49, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I support moving this to Ala (oppidum) and creating Ala (exercitus) or Ala (militia). On ala=wing, maybe it should be just in victionarium, rather than having a separate article ala (anatomia). Do other wikis have an article on that?--Xaverius 17:07, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We seem to have [[am:ክንፍ]] [[bg:Крило]] [[ca:Ala (aeronàutica)]] [[cs:Křídlo]] [[da:Vinge]] [[de:Flügel]] [[es:Ala (aeronáutica)]] [[fa:بال]] [[fr:Voilure (aéronautique)]] [[hr:Krilo zrakoplova]] [[id:Sayap]] [[it:Ala (aeronautica)]] [[he:כנף (מטוס)]] [[hu:Szárny]] [[nl:Vleugel (vliegtuig)]] [[ja:翼]] [[oc:Ala]] [[sl:Krilo]] [[fi:Siipi]] [[tr:Kanat]] [[zh:机翼]], so I would think that we should definitely have Ala, and it should be about "wing". we can talk about aerodynamics, etc... I support the moves suggested above.--Ioscius (disp) 17:11, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So now we have a fourth redirection: Ala (aeronautica)--Xaverius 17:13, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think Ala can just be Ala...--Ioscius (disp) 17:21, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So far, we've got only two basic senses: Ala (oppidum) and the other Ala. The latter fundamentally refers to anatomia; its other uses—aerodynamics (part of a flying machine), the Roman army (tactical formation), modern sports (ditto), the U.S. Air Force (the unit higher than a group but lower than a division), the U.S. Navy (two or more squadrons of noncarrrier-based airplanes), architecture (part of a building), politics (a group within a political party), theater (a piece of scenery), biology (part of a plant, especially of a papilionaceous flower), furniture-making (a sidepiece atop an armchair), and so on—are metaphors or extended or transferred senses, which should probably receive treatment in separate articles only if their texts become too extended for Vicipaedia's parameters, or if their definitions become too confusing. My rule usually is until there is no other article with the same name "first come, first served". But we can have a look at it and make a discretiva oppidum/res militaris/res anatomica etc.. (By the way, the German name of the town Aalen is because there once was an Ala.)--Alex1011 18:00, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My feeling for things like this is that Ala in its primary sense as wing deserves to be primary. The others should be distinguished as Ala (oppidum), etc.. If you made ala oppidum just ala then would you name the page on wings ala (ala)? Ala should have its own vicipaedia page, not just a vicidictionarium entry, which should discuss bird wings, insect wings, icharus, plane wings, history of wing design, etc.. --Rafaelgarcia 18:21, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, but there's no real need for Ala (ala): if we agree that one sense is primary, we can reserve Ala for that, and Ala (discretiva) as a guide to all the rest. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 18:42, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Would you place then the animal wing with the aeronautic wing together, then a military ala and finally ala the city?--Xaverius 18:33, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well the most original ala ist the bird's wing, and all the other ones are metaphorical. --Alex1011 18:53, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 19:38, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Me too. And on Xaverius' question, first make an article about wings, and when it's large enough, think about splitting. By the way, at en:Aalen there's an unsourced claim that the assertion of the name of Aalen tracing back to the Roman fort "was disproved by later research" – anyone by chance have a definite answer on that question? --Mercator salvationis 19:46, 24 Octobris 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just created Ala about wings, not noticing this old discussion; luckily I think I was following the consensus. Please expand it if you want, and we still need sub-sections or articles on the metaphorical meanings. Lesgles (disputatio) 23:46, 30 Decembris 2013 (UTC)[reply]
