Male or female?[fontem recensere]

Dear TheOriginalDuck, are you aware that your text ("Israelicus scriptor est") is unequivocally telling us that she's a male writer? IacobusAmor (disputatio) 13:08, 6 Februarii 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Expression[fontem recensere]

I'm kind of confused at the moment because the description's saying that the expression of this article must be heavily improved. I can't see that much errors at the moment to be honest what's why I also can't retrace the text above. --TheOriginalDuck (disputatio) 17:32, 8 Februarii 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Are you studying Latin? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 17:42, 8 Februarii 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am, and for words I didn't know I used a lexicon. TheOriginalDuck (disputatio) 17:45, 8 Februarii 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What I wrote:
Aieleta Gundar Gosen psycholgiae in Telavivo studuit secundum idque et pelliculae et scripto scaenario in Samus Spigel schola pelliculae sicut televisionis Hierosalymorum (Anglice: Sam Spiegel Film and Television School). His temporibus praeter scripta scaenaria fabulae qouque scribit.
What I meant:
Ayelet Gundar-Goshen studied psychology in Tel Aviv and after that both film and screenwriting at Sam Spiegel School of Film and Television (see the original name in brackets above). Nowadays, beside of scripts she also writes novels (here the casus has to be an accusative, my mistake).
scripto scenario and pellicula were mentioned at the website of pons.com TheOriginalDuck (disputatio) 17:51, 8 Februarii 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to local custom, terms like Sam Spiegel Film and Television School are usually left in their original language, but apter Latin might be Schola Cinematographica et Televisifica Samuelis Spiegel. IacobusAmor (disputatio) 18:31, 8 Februarii 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Notice the spelling: "psycholgiae" should be "psychologiae", "Hierosalymorum" should be "Hierosolymorum", "qouque" should be "quoque". No blame, these are not the easiest words to spell!
"Sam" is short for "Samuel". We can't invent names like "Samus", but we don't need to, because "Samuel" was a Latin forename even before English existed (3rd declension, Samuelem, Samuelis ... as Iacobus already shows). "Spiegel" stays as "Spiegel", surnames are not normally re-spelt in modern Latin but left unchanged.
"Secundum idque" was disturbing but I now understand how you got there. "Secundum id" could possibly mean something like "according to that" -- but "secundum" is more often an ordinal number "second" than a word meaning "according to/following" -- additionally, "que" must be added to the first word of the relevant phrase or clause, not the second: so, all in all, these words were really hard to understand (for me). For "after that" I might write, more simply, "postea" or "deinde".
"Scriptum" is the past participle of "scribere". If you use it as a noun, it has to be something concrete -- a "script" in fact. Your second use of the phrase you got from PONS is fine, she writes filmscripts; your first use isn't so good, because you don't go to school to study a filmscript, but the art of writing filmscripts: you might use "scriptura cinematographica" or "scriptio cinematographica" for this.
I revised the first sentence. The verb esse, unlike all other verbs, normally goes between the subject and the predicate, not at the end of the sentence. The locative case, without any preposition, is always used in Latin with names of towns -- believe me, it'll be in the grammar book somewhere -- and in the 2nd declension singular it's the same as the genitive. So "in Telavivo" changes to "Telavivi". To specify that she's a woman writer you can use the feminine form "scriptrix", not "mulier scriptor". Finally, in the grammar of a sentence like this, you are saying that her name is איילת גונדר-גושן "in Hebrew": that wants a Latin adverb, which is easily formed, Hebraice. Just changed the vita part to:
Aieleta Gundar Gosen psychologiae Telavivi studuit deindeque pelliculae et scripturae cinematographicae in Sam Spiegel Film and Television School. His temporibus praeter scripta scaenaria fabulas quoque scribit.
Hope it's better for now TheOriginalDuck (disputatio) 11:45, 11 Februarii 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's good. Can you add the years of original publication of her books in Hebrew? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 17:37, 11 Februarii 2023 (UTC)[reply]
